FVFL’s Executive Director Alfreda Flowers was among the honorees who received an award at Saint Paul Neighborhood Honor Roll Volunteer Awards night on January 30, 2015. The District Councils of Saint Paul held the event at the University of Saint Thomas.
Here is what they said about our Ms. Flowers:
“Alfreda’s long-standing passion for working with families in our community continues to grow. She is committed to providing needed resources for low-income youth and hosts an annual school backpack resource event that benefits 1000’s of area families. She creatively integrates values with family support action and leverages resources for families so that all children have a solid foundation from which to thrive and learn. Alfreda’s leadership work in faith communities, and human services, education and advocacy arenas has informed her vision of what families truly need in order to thrive. Alfreda continues her work with determination and commitment to the well-being of all children and families.”
Recognition of Ms. Flower’s work isn’t new. In November 2014, East Side Area Business Association (ESABA) awarded Ms. Flowers not only the 3rd annual Non-Profit Difference Maker Award but also the 1st annual Daymaker Award saying “Alfreda is one of those people who tirelessly serves the many needs of the East Side Community and she always defers recognition to the many people who join with her and are captured by her inspiration and leadership….she is a living testimony and example to all of us in how to approach every day by making the day for anyone you come in contact with.”
